After graduating with a Bachelor of Social Science (Hons.) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1972 and a postgraduate degree from the University of Hawaii in 1975, Alfred obtained a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from the University of London in 1986, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the University of Hong Kong in 1987. Before joining the legal profession, he was an economic researcher of the Bank of America and thereafter taught economics at the University of Hong Kong. Alfred worked as an Associate Solicitor for the Hong Kong branch of a city firm for a couple of years before becoming a founding partner of Hau, Lau, Li and Yeung from 1992 to 2020. He deals mainly with commercial agreements, dispute among shareholders, transfer of business or shares, litigation, etc.
